MANVEL/IOWA COLONY, TX (December 8, 2015) – Construction has started on the Meridiana Parkway/Texas 288 interchange providing direct access to the new Meridiana master-planned community, Houston’s first community dedicated to education for all ages amidst more than 5,500 new, single-family homes.

Just minutes south of Highway 6, the new Meridiana Parkway/Texas 288 interchange will provide access into the new community for those driving south from the Texas Medical Center or those heading north from Angleton, Lake Jackson and Freeport.

The interchange is expected to be completed by late 2016 when it will connect to Meridiana Parkway, the signature east-west thoroughfare winding through the 2,700-acre master-planned community.  Meridiana Parkway (now County Road 56) ultimately will extend to Highway 6 providing another convenient access point into the community.

Construction also is well underway at the new, on-site Meridiana Elementary School, the first in the Alvin ISD located south of Highway 6 and east of Texas 288.  The school is scheduled to open for the 2016 – 2017 academic school year.

Developed by Rise Communities, Meridiana will be Houston’s first community with outdoor learning labs and engaging learning and discovery experiences, created in collaboration with the Alvin ISD, as part of its first phase.  Each of the experiences will be designed to fit into the District’s curriculum for students from kindergarten through high school.

Besides its commitment to creating a one-of-a-kind, education-based community, Meridiana will offer new homes by David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, Perry Homes, Plantation Homes, Ryland Homes, Shea Homes, Taylor Morrison Homes and Trendmaker Homes.  Meridiana homesites will range from 50-100 feet in width, including 80 and 100-foot homesites in several gated sections.  Plus, its homesites will be five feet deeper than those in other master-planned communities.

Meridiana’s Amenity Village, now under construction and scheduled to open in spring 2016, will feature a Welcome Center, fitness center with children’s play area, family pool with cabanas, splash pad, poolside café and a shady, hillside amphitheater for movie nights.   Residents will enjoy catch-and-release fishing, kayaking and a trail system connecting the all-new Meridian Elementary School.

Meridiana also will be home to Soliel (French for sun), a trained Golden Retriever who will serve as the community’s official ambassador.  Besides appearing at community events, Soliel will periodically invite residents to spend the night in his swanky, 40-foot Ambassador’s Yacht, part of Meridiana’s Amenity Village.

A temporary on-site Welcome Center is open daily while temporary on-site builder sales offices are expected to open soon.
