Houston’s First “Street Pantries” Debut in New Custom Home Section of Cane Island

KATY, TX (March 31, 2016) – The Katy master-planned community of Cane Island, fresh off its grand opening and Amenity Village introduction, has opened an exclusive gated section of luxury custom homesites featuring Houston’s first “Street Pantries” to create a secure and convenient way for online purchases, groceries, dry cleaning and other items to be delivered directly to the home.

The Estates at Cane Island features 22 half-acre homesites with impressive lakefront views or lush, forested settings complete with hundreds of mature trees that will change accent color over the course of the night via a custom tree lighting program.  Streets in the new section also will be lined with illuminated, mature trees.

“Our custom home section offers families the opportunity to enjoy the privacy of an exclusive neighborhood with all of the resort-style amenities of Cane Island,” says Beth Naef, custom home sales manager for the new Cane Island neighborhood.

Each custom home in Cane Island will be the first in Houston built with a garage-attached, air-conditioned Street Pantry, ideal for deliveries when a resident is away.  The spaces will be equipped with shelving, a rod for dry cleaning deliveries and electrical outlet for an optional, powered ice chest for storing groceries for an extended time.

As an added convenience, the homeowner will receive a text message when a delivery is made according to the passcode assigned to each service.  Or, a resident can choose to have a delivery sent to the Cane Island Welcome Center rather than directly to their home.  In these cases, a Cane Island host can be granted a passcode to place the item in the resident’s private Street Pantry.

User codes can be changed, deleted or programmed to work during a specified time range when a delivery is expected.

Each Street Pantry will offer approximately 115 cubic feet of storage accessible by a secure, side door inside each garage, thereby eliminating the need for the home owner to go outside the house to enter the space.

“The Street Pantries and programmed custom lights in the forested homesite section are just two of the little touches designed to create a different kind of custom home experience,” adds Naef.

The Estates at Cane Island also will feature an impressive gated entry and mature tree entrance befitting one of west Houston’s finest custom home neighborhoods.

The four exclusive custom home builders for The Estates at Cane Island will be announced in the coming weeks.  Construction of the first four custom homes is expected to begin in June.

Like all families in the Katy master-planned community, residents of The Estates at Cane Island will enjoy the Cane Island Amenity Village featuring a family pool with cabanas, children’s water playground and ample shade.  The resort-style Amenity Village also includes a lap pool, two-story fitness center, yoga studio, glass-walled conservatory for special events, poolside cafe and cozy, fireside relaxation areas.

The Amenity Village also offers a high-end event space serviced by a restaurant-quality commercial kitchen and community lawn shaded by rescued, 75-year-old oak trees.

Cane Island families participate in resident-only events including fireside “Desserts at Dusk” and “Movies on the Lawn,” wine tastings in the Cane Island conservatory and artist-led painting classes as planned by the community’s Lifestyle Coordinator.
