KATY, TX (February 24, 2015) – The team of the Cane Island Vaqueros, representing Katy’s newest master-planned community, was the top bidder for several prized entries in this year’s auction at the 72nd Annual Katy ISD FFA Livestock Show and Rodeo.
The team walked away as the top bidder for the Grand Champion Steer, Reserve Lamb and several other entries as presented by Katy High School students, helping raise close to $30,000 for the Katy FFA Chapter. The team also contributed $100 to every Katy High School student with an animal in the live auction.
The contributions to the students of Katy High School were particularly significant given Cane Island families will attend the Katy ISD School, according to Jennifer Jones, the community’s vice president of marketing.
“We’re certainly looking to building a strong bond with all of our Katy ISD schools,” she says, noting Cane Island families will attend Katy Elementary and Katy Junior High School. The community also is home to a site of a future Katy ISD elementary school.
The Cane Island Vaqueros also opted to donate the livestock it purchased back to Katy FFA to further boost the team’s donation totals.
The Cane Island Vaqueros included RISE Communities, Allen Boone Humphries Robinson, Amegy Bank, BT Transportation, Cane Island Outfitters, Charles Boatwright, Coventry Homes, David Weekley Homes, Doyle Callender, EHRA Engineering, Freed Advertising, Junction Landscaping, Kaplan Public Relations, KJC Consulting, Lake Management Services, Myra Jones, Perry Homes, Regenbrecht Shade Trees, Ryland Homes,
Severn Trent, Slim Drill International, SpawGlass and West Cane Island Partners.
Katy’s newest master-planned community also sponsored the three-day rodeo of nightly competitions including Bull Riding, Barrel Racing, Bronc Riding, Calf Roping and Calf Scramble.
Named after the 1872 settlement which later became Katy, the Cane Island master-planned community will be accessible from Interstate 10 at the new Cane Island.
